The visit of the President of Ukraine to Father's House

On November 21, in the context of charity action “St Nicolas makes wonders” The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has visited Father’s House.

Children were patiently looking forward to see the President, and beforehand prepared hand-made presents, also “Singing Hearts” music group preformed their best songs. Viktor Yuschenko looked over classes and rooms of the Center, had a conversation with caregivers and children of the Center and also was invited by one of the family groups for a tea.

As part of the action children also received presents consist of: warm clothes, jacket, and leather winter shoes. This day has left a lasting impression, because president himself presented presents for each child.

“My goal is to attract attention of Ukrainian business, government, and people of good will by means of this charity – let us put attention on this children” - said Viktor Yushchenko.

The president expressed his conviction that the society would not be able to solve this problem by screening off from the orphans.

“I want to issue an appropriate edict, which would call up sense of responsibility in millions of people and stimulate very brave, courageous and generous decisions about adoption of children”, said V. Yushchenko.

'The Island of treasures' summer camp 2007

This year The Island of Treasures camp of social rehabilitation was held in usual form. Unusual as always are children, because each of them is full-value individuality, and during their short lives they have passed through many hard times. Most of the children in the camp are from unfortunate families, who lived in the terrible conditions and were left without parental care. Altogether 22 children are undergoing rehabilitation on the Island.

At the time when children are on the Island caregivers are working not only with them, but also with their parents, so that in the end of the camp children would have a chance to came back to rehabilitated families and to start new life. Saturday in a Parental Day in the camp – on this day all parents come to visit their children. Parents couldn’t believe that their children are washing clothes and making beds themselves, and it’s not all because it’s impossible to list everything they’ve learned on the Island.

As always its very joyful on the camp, because children have different kinds of activity – games on the water, jumping from the spring board, races on mattresses, cycle trek, archery, trampoline, swings, dodge ball, football, volleyball and others. Children have active way of living, and some of them were even treated from their sicknesses. Most of the children had never had such a joyful time in their lives. Moreover children are learning to take care of their belongings and to be disciplined.

Everyday caregivers are holding Bible lessons for children with dramas and thematic cartoons. Children are learning to value themselves, to be careful, to develop as individuality and to help others. After each lesson children are proposed different tasks to develop their creativity, because each of them has special talents, you just have to develop them.

Under rapt attention of caregivers children are developing and changing for better, they became more open, and stopped to be afraid of adults, they start to help each other. Drop by drop, day by day in life of each child a big change is being made.

In the end of summer about 15 children after rehabilitation will be taken to Father’s House Center of Social Care.

New children in family groups

In June 10 children from Father’s House Center of Rehabilitation were directed to the Center of Family Care.

On this day caregivers of the Center prepared special festival program for these children. The concert with songs and dramas was organized. Each child received a lot of warm words and wishes; also each of them was presented with photo album with pictures which show the story of the child during this year. Children themselves invited their future families on this holiday. The celebration was warm and joyful, though it was not gone without tears – these were tears of leaving and joy, because the new period of children’s life has been started.

Parents started to get ready for receiving of new children some time earlier. They invited them to their homes, went with them on picnics, and tired to spend more time together. Thanks to it friendly relations were established between them and children could feel that they were received to really loving families.

In September the Center of Rehabilitation will receive 15 more new children left without parental care.
